Technics reveals limited edition SL-1200 to celebrate 50th anniversary
2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Technics 'legendary SL-1200 turntable – arguably the most iconic DJ deck of all time – and to celebrate, the company has released a limited-edition model: the SL-1200M7L. But it doesn't stop there, Technics even partnered with Boiler Room and Dommune on a six-hour broadcast featuring sets from 7 DJs like Ellen Allien, Shanti Celeste and more.
Based on the SL-1200MK7 standard , which was introduced in 2019, the limited-edition M7L is available in seven color options (black, red, blue, white, green, yellow, and beige) that are designed to “pay homage to street culture.”that inspired the rise of DJs.”
The DJ turntable features a coreless direct drive motor that promises stable rotation and maximum torque. This is accompanied by an arm that is said to be sensitive but robust – always an attractive combination.
The two-layer frame plate, on the other hand, is designed to provide better vibration dampening performance. When combined with the high-rigidity cabinet and high-damping isolator, we're sure vibrations won't be an issue, even in the busiest clubs.
Control features include start torque/brake speed adjustment, pitch adjustment and reverse play, while the fixture has a long-lasting LED that should be good for “many rounds”.
To celebrate the release of the SL-1200M7L, Technics partnered with Boiler Room and Dommune on a six-hour broadcast featuring sets from 7 DJs including: DJ Craze, DJ Koco, Ellen Allien, Gilles Peterson, Mala, Marcel Dettmann and Shanti Celestial. Watch here.
The SL-1200M7L is now available for pre-order with limited-edition accessories – including a Slipmat with a gold logo.
